Format: Audio CD
Chris Young won the 2005 Nashville Star competition and, I suspect, his strong baritone voice was a prime reason. It is ideally suited to country music and I find it a little more than George Strait and a little less than Dwight Yoakam - somewhere in the middle I guess!

Where ever it lies it is a voice more suited to ballads and his haunting version of Tony Joe White's "Rainy Night In Georgia" shows that Chris Young has got the talent to make the big time in contemporary country.

The problem with this album is that there just isn't the quality of material to sustain it over even a modest ten tracks. The title track, "The Man I Want To Be", the duet with Willie Nelson, "Rose In Paradise", "Gettin' You Home" and The Shoebox" are all passable country ballads but nothing outstanding.

The rockers, "That Makes Me" and Twenty One Candles" are nothing more than modest filler and just not suited to that big, warm baritone.

Chris Young has got the voice and he's got the band: he just needs the songs.

Right now American country radio loves Chris Young - and for a good reason. The American Idol star had a baritone to die for. This album includes several current number 1 hits and it's just a great listen.

In 2006, Young was declared the winner of Nashville Star. He signed to RCA records and the hits have not stopped. However his first No.1 was 'Getting You Home' and it's probably one of the most catchy, irresistible tunes to grace country radio for several years.

The absolute stand-out song (and it's a hard choice to make) is the stunning track The Dashboard. It's a deep, emotional song about a brother going to war, his military hero, who gives him his car to look after.

Country Music doesn't get better than this. Essentially, Chris Young is the modern George Jones.

The Man I Want To Be is the follow up to his highly successful self titled debut, and he just keeps on getting better!
With Chris' strong baritone voice you could easily mistake him for the likes of Keith Whitley or Randy Travis. The man can sing!So it's a pleasure to listen to him.
Included is the very catchy and also his first no.1 hit Gettin' You Home. His voice really shines on the slow songs like The Dashboard,It Takes A Man and his fantastic version of Rainy Night In Georgia. There's also a special duet with Willie Nelson on Rose In Paradise.
He really shows of his powerful voice in the single Voices, this will give you shivers down your spine.
Chris co wrote four of the songs and it's produced by the legendary James Stroud.
The Man I Want To Be is just simple easy listening country that you can just sit back and enjoy.Highly recommended!

Prime cuts: Voices, Gettin' You Home, Rose In Paradise, The Man I Want To Be.

One of the best country albums I have ever bought. Everything on it is powerful, especially his voice and the lyrics of most of the songs will mean something to everyone. If you like American country with a booming country voice, get this album. I promise it will not disappoint.

I got interested in country music via my interest in natural horsemanship but had never bought anything before. I came across Chris Young quite by accident buying another album that had a 'customers who bought this also bought' link - WOW - Chris Young has the most fantastic voice I just can't stop listening to this CD. It's a wonderful mix of songs; they all lift your spirits and you can't help but be blown away by his amazing voice. can't wait to buy more.....
