Product Description

Product Description

The United Nations Department for the Enforcement and Apprehension of Demons is the first, last and only line of defence against the supernatural threats trying to break into a world where magic and technology are uneasy bedfellows.

In his third adventure, Agent Ward of UNDEAD travels the globe to track down a deadly threat. From Russia to Spain to Mexico to ... um ... High Wycombe he faces off against giant wyrms, forest spirits and perhaps the greatest danger that he has ever encountered.

And we didn't even mention the Valkyries.

More About the Author

Darren Humphries is English and in his forties.

He is, therefore, a child of the Star Wars era with a corresponding love of science fiction brought about by repeated science fiction movie seasons on BBC2 and, of course, Doctor Who.

As well as being a TV and film science fiction addict since birth (apparently) he has been writing stories since he learned to write, possibly spurred on by placing in a national competition when he was about six years old.

In later years, he has produced a number of science fiction/fantasy/horror novels all of which are now available on Kindle through Amazon and in print through Lulu.com as well as an encyclopedia of Science Fiction television shows (also available through Lulu.com).

Despite all this, he is fairly normal. Well, he thinks so anyway.

He is widowed, has two children and needs to pay the mortgage.

Between the kids and work and all the other adult stuff that he pretends to be grown up about, he still watches and reviews science fiction television and movies on the Sci Fi Freak Site at www.scififreaksite.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Cracking good read 8 Jun 2012

This is a hugely enjoyable series and if anything this third novel is the best yet. Agent Ward is a great character in the Sardonic Hero With Wit Under Pressure mode although clearly he is not an infallible superman, which makes him all the more believable. Or as believable as possible give the situations that he finds himself in!
What I particularly enjoyed about this adventure (on top of the usual well-crafted storyline and characterisations) was the globe-hopping and exciting backdrops. A really dangerous mythical beast and a good dollop of humour thrown in makes this one of the best fun reads of this year. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, once again! 11 Jun 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Once again Darren Humphries has not let his fans down (in my opinion at least). U.N.D.E.A.D. 3 is just as action-packed, fun-filled and random as anyone could wish, I marvel at his ability to write such a humourous story while still managing to pluck at the heart strings, I never thought I would feel emotional about a giant cave worm!

There were more twists and turns in book 3 than I could count and most of them I didn't see coming, I must be easily led along! Having hardly finished this book I am already eagerly awaiting book 4. Absolutely worth every single penny and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trogdor the Burninator... 11 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
... Isn't in this book. The third volume in the Man from U.N.D.E.A.D series, and I felt Darren Humphries had hit his stride, after a (only very slight) dip for book 2. Here, the plot twists and turns, the dialogue sparkles, and there is a suitably dramatic and climactic finale. A few welcome returns for characters for previous books (and one in particular, there), and a real sense of the supporting cast becoming a full set of rounded characters, rather than ciphers for Agent Ward to bounce one-liners off.

I've since read volume 4, and many of the shorter Ward adventures, but I'm very far behind with my reviewing, frankly.

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Quite enjoyed this book, cracks along at a reasonable pace, but somehow never fully pulled me away from reality, which I like a good book to do. worth the price though, and an author to watch in the future...

5.0 out of 5 stars its a cracker :-) 1 April 2013

a good giggle and the writing is easy on the eye with plenty of wit. Whizz around the occult world like Bond with ouija board. I have read the full set and looking for the next one!
