Book Description

22 Dec 2011

Be honest, How often do you:
Immediately check out the Facebook page of a guy you’ve just met?
Send drunken texts that make you want to cringe the next morning?
While away whole evenings analysing your love life with your mates?
Answered yes to any of the above? Then you need this book.

The single woman has never had it so good – or so you'd think. As Zoe Strimpel discovered, the reality can often be one of Junk Food Love, in other words: negative man-related experiences, corrosive man-obsessing thoughts and damaging man-related actions.

Determined to help her fellow single woman, Zoe put herself on The Man Diet: ten no-nonsense rules to stop you binging on bad romance and help you sort the wheat from the chaff – emotionally, sexually and romantically. This isn’t a book about snaring a man; it’s about treating yourself well while you’re single and putting you on the right track to happiness.

If you loved Caitlin Moran’s How to be a Woman and Grace Dent’s How to Leave Twitter, you will love this book.

About the Author

Zoe Strimpel's first writing job was on the Times Money section, where she confirmed that she has no interest in the finer points of pensions, annuities and insurance. She thus threw herself into writing about books, food and life, hitting a popular nerve with a piece for The Times's Times2 about how talkative women put men off. There's something in this man-woman thing, she thought, and soon landed a long-running, popular column about the single life in the ex-newspaper, thelondonpaper. In 2008 she began writing a book about what men really think, conducting interviews with hundreds of them on the topic of their romantic leanings. In 2010, What the Hell is He Thinking: All the Questions You've Ever Asked About Men Answered, was published. This is her second book.

Zoe grew up near Boston, USA. She studied English at Cambridge and is the Lifestyle Editor of business newspaper City A.M. She blogs at zoestrimpel.com and tweets at @zstrimpel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant modern guide which is honest! 28 Jan 2012
Format:Paperback
A brilliant book helping bring to light the problems we often can cause for ourselves and helps avoid the obstacles in life that could prevent us even just from making friends. I found it very useful and has had life changing effects. I also recommended this not only to my female friends but male ones to, as many of the rules can apply to them too and helps some realise just how they are objectifying women. would recommend to anyone, its down to earth, modern and more for the everyday girl who wants honesty. And to think I only ordered it after reading a little article by the author in a magazine i wouldn't usually have bought!

5.0 out of 5 stars Shockingly useful and valuable guide! 21 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I don't read many self-help books, especially those pertaining to relationships but I'm seriously pleased and gratified that I got this one. The author writes frankly and clearly - there's nothing long-winded or too introspective here, it hits just the right tone and note. I'm a good decade older than her target audience, and I'm rather embarrassed by how relevant it is to me - but, really, better to be aware now rather than later. She gives 10 rules, and some were not particularly applicable (I got off Facebook entirely a year ago and have found relief in doing this, though I suspect I'm unusual in this; I also don't drink a whole lot, though I used to previously and recognised that awful morning-after feeling she describes so well).

Why we should avoid No Strings Attached sex and why we should stop game playing were the chapters that I read with tremendous relief as obvious solutions to long-term problems I hadn't quite been able to pinpoint as accurately as she does. Her objective here isn't to make men chase us, but for us to feel better in ourselves, and even while reading it, I did so. And since reading the book, I have been a great deal more calm in myself - no small feat.

She shows us how we all participate in this major play of projecting how we think we 'ought' to behave and feel, when it is usually contrary to how we're really feeling deep down. Like I said - the relief of letting that whole charade go. I feel lighter and braver.

Zoe Strimpel - I salute you. Thanks for a really fantastic book!

This is a good book with great tips but it wasn't quite what I was after. It's definitely a book for the single girl who likes to go out and see lots of guys. It's definitely good value for money!
