Spain released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital Stereo ), Spanish ( Dolby Digital Stereo ), Spanish ( Subtitles ), SPECIAL FEATURES: Black & White, Interactive Menu, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: Mexican gunfighter Dave Robles outdraws the town's outlaw-turned-sheriff and is invited to fill the dead man's shoes. But a tin star doesn't bring automatic respectability and Robles is shunned by the town's leading citizens. His popularity with its less-savory element, particularly saloonkeeper Bannister, wanes dramatically, too, as he starts to take his job seriously. It is his love for a decent, caring woman that keeps Dave in town, but can she convince him to lay down his gun and start a new life? ...The Man from Del Rio

MAN FROM DEL RIO 19 April 2011
By Dr. S. S. Nagi TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
This movie was first released in 1956(2011), runs 82 minutes in B/W and full screen. The picture and sound quality is very good and there are no extras in the DVD. The movie starts with Dave Robalis(ANTHONY QUINN) playing with a dog when 2 stangers ride into the town. Robalis has been waiting for Dan Ritchie. Robalis explains to Dan that the other 4 were dead and in the gun draw, Dan is shot dead. Robalis also has a left chest injury and is taken to Dr Adams. Luckily he has a minor wound. The saloon boss, Banninger introduces Robalis to his other boys. Sheriff Tillman is sent by the town folks to the saloon to keep order. The drunk gunmen tease the sheriff and Robalis had to shoot 2 of them. Robalis is also interested in Estella(KATY JURADO) who works for Dr Adams. The sheriff and his wife leave town. There is a town meeting to discuss law and order. The town offers Robalis the job of sheriff and he excepts. However, he soon realises that he is not excepted socially. In a fist fight with Banninger, Robalis breaks his right wrist. He tells Bannister to leave town at 10 O'clock(am) or fight.
How will the movie end? Will Robalis or Banninger leave town? Does Banninger know that Robalis has broken his right wrist and may not be able to draw? Does the town care? What will Estella do?
The B/w photography by STANLEY CORTEZ is excellent under good direction by HARRY HORNER. Anthony Quinn and Katy Jurado give excellent performances.
Anthony Quinn(ANTONIO RODOLFO QUINN OAXACA) was born on 21.4.1915 in Chihuahua, Mexico. His mother was of Aztec Indian ancestry and his father an Irish Mexican. Quinn grew up in El-Paso, Texas. He boxed professionally. He launched his career in movies in 1936. In 1947, he became a citizen of USA. He won his oscar for ZABATA in 1952. He was also interested in painting and writing. From 3 marriages and 1 partner, he had 12 children. He acted in many movies. He spent his last years in Bristol, Rhode Island. He died on 3.6.2001, ages 86, from throat cancer and pneumonia. He was buried in his family plot.
Some other old westerns re-released recently are:-
(1) Davey Crockett, Indian Scout, George Montgomery 1950
(2) Fort Defiance, Peter Graves 1950
(3) Fort Bowie, Ben Johnson 1950
(4) Fort Massacre, Joel McCrea 1958
(5) Ride Vaquero, Robert Taylor 1953

(8) Ambush, Robert Taylor, 1949
(9) Devil's Doorway, Robert Taylor 1949

Being a western fan, I enjoyed watching this DVD.
Watch and ENJOY.

"MAN FROM DEL RIO"[1956, B&W]is an excellently acted and filmed western with an equally fine supporting cast.
This film/dvd has already been fully detailed by a previous reviewer.
But basically the two leads are legendary Mexico borns Anthony Quinn and Katy Jurado.
Quinn plays Dave Robalis who is an uneducated gunslinger but becomes elected Sheriff of a small town,
he then forces the local bad guys one by one to leave town. Jurado is Estella a nurse who works for the Doctor.
Both Estella and Dave eventually fall in love. As the Sheriff carries on his pursuit of the bad guys, leading upto
an exciting climax of an ending.

"MAN FROM DEL RIO" is shown full frame. Film duration 82 minutes. In perfect print/sound quality.
Regards,Bill.
