What a fantastic read. This is a book that will have you locked in from page one and will only let you go when you have finished.
Gives a fascinating insight into Stuey Ungar's formative years and what made him the player and the man he turned out to be. A flawed diamond who couldn't ever beat his demons but lived his life on his terms.
If the storyteller's in Hollywood came up with this story you would laugh them out of the cinema but the story is true but reads like a work of fiction (a lot of poker biogs have that effect on me though). Young punk gets into cards at a young age, wins the World Series of Poker in 1980 (and when asked what he was going to do with the winnings said "gamble it") then for good measure does it again in 1981, wins and loses millions of dollars, has problems with drink, drugs, women, sports betting then in 1997 comes from a down and out to win the World Series again. Within a year he was found dead in a hotel room with $800 in his pocket.
This guy has everything in him: gangster, card sharp, poker genius but most of all he was a gambler.
What a fantastic read. This book really takes you back to what gambling was all about.
How good would this guy be at Poker if he was still alive today!!
