I am quite a big fan of anime and manga now, but this was the first book of manga I went out and bought, thinking that it would be a perfect first buy since it was a collection of "Best New Manga". Anyway I was wrong. This book contains a couple of short stories written by international artists (by this I mean artists not living in Japan). I know it may sound strange but to me a huge part of why manga is so amazing and different is due to the Japanese culture. These stories attempt to imitate the common themes in manga in a foreign setting. They are cheesy and obvious. Namik's talk of risk and variety is a far far far stretch, in my opinion. I also find it amusing that Cookoo describes this as being a great introduction to the "Japanese art" as ironically none of the art in this book is Japanese. There is one good Yaoi story in here but to be fair don't waste your money. Go out and buy something with positive reviews written by people other than the author and editor (see the same product's other listing and you'll find a suspicious amount of similarity in the reviews from them and these below!); Monster, School Rumble, Yotsuba&, Millenium Actress are all great choices! Trust ME and not the author and editor who (unsurprisingly) gave this book 5 stars!!!
