The Male Brain 14 Jun 2010
Format:Paperback
For those of us in teaching this should be required reading. The fluffy idea that gender is nothing more than a social construct should never have been allowed to take root in our teacher-training institutions and this book is another salvo which I hope will blow that politically-correct nonsense away. For those with sons, fathers, boyfriends and husbands this book is required reading. Whether the feminists like it or not, men ARE different. The evidence is undeniable and increasing and this tome is an easily-read guide to how males function.

Just like "The Female Brain", this book is full of the latest physiological information and makes interesting reading. There were, however, not too many surprises, and I confess that I read Allan and Barbara Pease's books with much greater enjoyment because they treat the same subject, if less thoroughly, with a much more appealing sense of humour. Furthermore, as this book is aimed at the lay reader, I found the annotated reading list far too long. Half as many titles would have been too many, but the book might have been only half the price. Finally (and this is probably an unfair gripe), why are American authors so keen to adopt twee vocabulary? "The Daddy Brain"?! Such terminology surely does not belong into a book which aspires to provide detailed and accurate information.

The Male Brain 8 Jun 2011
Format:Paperback
This is a great book for anyone with teenage boys or working with young fellows. It explains and normalises lots of their behaviour in this stage of their life, and how their developement progresses.
