Product Description

Product Description

The Making of Guyana. Guyana's rich culture mosaic is the legacy of the British plantation's economy, which after the abolition of slavery brought many indentured workers from British India, Indonesia, and China. They joined the descendants of African slaves, a large Jewish community, a European and Middle Eastern business and professional elite and the remnants indigenous Arawak and Carib people. Dutch, Hindustani, Hakka, Mandarin, and Javanese are also spoken. In Guyana English is the medium of exchange. Hindi and Urdu are only used for religious purposes by Hindus and Muslims. His Excellency, Bharrat Jegdeo, the President of Guyana is trying his best to expand and make Guyana a better place to live between East Indians and Africans. Bless him for all of his doings!

It is more one sided, giving only the East Indian perspective. Instead of chroniciling the contribution of all the other races present during the time period covered.
Its Good BUT! 5 April 2012

I have to say I learned alot in this book, the way that it is written keeps your interest, the only complaint i have to comment on is that alot of whats written maybe starting from the middle, but more towards the end, the information is repeated in different sections, that made my eyebrow raise. If your not determined to finish the book, you would roll your eyes and put it down because the information repeats itself, makes you confused as if you read the section before and you havent because something new is in the same section..Its like that saying, "if you say it enough, maybe you will begin to think its true"..Hmmm is the information True?...
