4.0 out of 5 stars A Look Behind Closed Doors of Magick 18 May 2010
By Read A Review - Published on Amazon.com
This was a fun DVD. I'm not big on "Magick" but my sister is wholeheartedly into it and I support her. When she mentioned The Magick of Solomon I figured it couldn't hurt to watch it. In this film you learn about:

How the Forgotten Secrets of Magick were Re-discovered.

The Truth about Angels and Demons.

See Temple Operations Performed by magical Adepts.

The Modern Classic digitally re-mastered, enhanced and extended with added footage of O.T.A. Magical Operations.

It also shows Interactive Hypnotic Sequences

Obviously, this DVD isn't recommended for children.

What I found most intriguing about the film is that they actually show the magick rituals! I found them to be highly spiritual and actually quite interesting. This DVD really changed my point of view on magick because I, like most people, had only heard rumors about "what goes on behind closed doors" and we all know that rumors are usually blown way out of proportion. The people practicing the rituals truly believe in what they're doing, and I liked all the pomp and pageantry. There are lavish costumes and many items used in their rituals, but there's not an ounce of egotism involved. I was glad I watched The Magick of Solomon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Updated Review : The master mandala inside the dvd case makes this awesome. 11 May 2010

Since I was made aware of the master mandala being inside I'm altering my review. That tool alone is worth the price of this dvd.

Original Review Below:
This dvd is exactly the same as The Magick of Solomon, 2nd Edition. There is nothing new in it so don't make the mistake of thinking it's updated with more material or something.

However, the content itself is awesome. If you want some insight on a topic often shrouded in unnecessary mystery Poke Runyon does a great job of bringing clarity and applying modern science to the western ceremonial tradition. Even if you're not a practitioner, which I am not, it is still very interesting to watch and gives food for thought. In essence, the demons of the goetia are said to be representative of parts of our pysche and as is the case with all real magic, ( in other words not what teenagers, or even some adults, do to piss off their parents/society) it's all about mastery of the self. Interestingly enough that concept isn't applied to the four guardians of the quarters so I wonder how he feels about that.

A great dvd worth buying for its well presented material. Just make sure you don't already own it under a different name.

4.0 out of 5 stars Do you believe in Magick? 13 May 2010
By B. Hauser - Published on Amazon.com
This is a one-man show starring Poke Runyon, who calls himself a "ceremonial magician." He's an entertaining guy with a touch of Vincent Price to him who describes and demonstrates the special methods and techniques designed to tap into the Ancient Western Wisdom and summon spirits, gods and goddesses from the Other Side. Basically, a day at the Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

There's a lot of paraphernalia involved, and costumes, incantations and ritual. Like most religions, to an outsider it can look like so much mumbo-jumbo. The repeated "Don't try this at home" warnings are a nice touch. Since to my knowledge there's nothing else like this anywhere, I'd say if this sort of thing is your thing, you should see this.
