'a darkly magical tale, drawing the reader in with sleight of hand to an erotic, stylish and ultimately squalid series of encounters that end in a dazzlingly clever twist' (VAL MCDERMID )

'brings San Francisco to life with a vengeance ... [David Hunt] writes like a dream ... a dizzy ride on the wild side' (Time Out )

'An assured and accomplished book' (Sunday Telegraph )

Product Description

Photographer Kay Farrow sees the world in black and white - literally: she has a rare eye condition that makes her unable to discern colours.

The brutal murder of street hustler Tim, the beautiful boy who is the subject of Kay's latest book of photographs, sends her on a dark voyage into San Francisco's erotic underbelly - she's sure this is not just a routine street killing.

Moving with her camera among the sexual outlaws, both male and female, who populate San Francisco's gay bars and SM clubs, Kay pieces together Tim's bizarre life and mysterious death - and confronts her own demons in a shattering climax ...

I picked this up by chance and couldnt put it down. I thought it would be the usual crime book, but no, totally original, totally gripping. The lead character is strong but likable, if a little naive. Strong storyline that is hard to guess. A great read.

Great read 28 Mar 2010

I read this book a few years ago, and even though I have read countless books since, this one has always remained at the back of my head. It is the sort of book you just can't put down. Well written with such detail that you can almost feel part of it. A gritty tale about murder, sex, power and families with a dash of mystery and magic! I really recommend this book. It has something for everyone.

You fall in love with the story teller right a way similarly to the way you feel towards Miss Smilla in Peter Hoeg's book.

It is a solid crime book that brings San Francisco to life
