Although this is eminently readable from the point of view of general interest, giving a biographical "sketch" (literally!) of Miss Potter through her developing drawing and artistic output - this book is ideal as a companion to a visit to Hawkshead where the National Trust have an exhibition of her artwork. The early animal drawings and the development of the anthropomorphic style which came to fruition in her most famous work is fascinating, as are the studies of fungi where she honed her considerable skills as a draughtswoman. Highly recommended.

Great biographical tome 28 Nov 2010
By tropixmeg - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Most if not all of us grew up with Margaret Potter's Peter Rabbit and others, and I, for one, read many of her stories over and over as a grade schooler. This book gives a wonderful look into the life of the author, her publishers, and family, one I can appreciate as an adult who still marvels over her imagination and creativity.

Great addition to works about Beatrix Potter 12 Nov 2013

Gives additional insight into Beatrix Potter's attitudes and opinions. I read her biography, also by
Margaret Lane, and I was surprised at how little the two books over lapped.
Highly recommend. 14 Dec 2013

Book in VG condition for a Library Book. Very interesting reading! 9 Oct 2013

For a Library Book, it is in VG condition! Does have the library pocket and card, but I think it adds to the charm of the book. I have purchased Library books before and always find them in VG condition. The story has given me insight to Beatrix Potter's life and writings. Great addition to my personal collection. I am purchasing Leslie Linder's autobiography next, which is Beatrix's code journal.
