Your friend will name a random number. You grab your pen and rapidly write out 16 numbers into a 4x4 grid. With a smug flourish, you then reveal that all combinations and directions within the grid add up to their chosen number. Each vertical column adds up to their number. Each horizontal line adds up to their number. Each block of 4 adds up. Each opposite pair adds up. Each diagonal adds up. And even the 4 corners add up - all to their chosen number.

You appear to have performed thousands of calculations, in your head in mere seconds, producing a Magic Square of exquisite mathematical elegance. It is simply mind-blowing.

Effortlessly perform a trick that it seems only a computer could perform, and learn how in 10 minutes from right now.

99.99% of people won't even come close to solving this.

The most plausible explanation is, quite simply, that you're a genuine Hidden Genius...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic value for money 7 Jun 2012

If you want to know about the `magic square', a classic of magic and mentalism, then you really can't go wrong with this Kindle book.
The basic effect is: a spectator is asked for a random number and you, the magician, quickly fill up a four-by-four matrix with seemingly-random numbers. None of these numbers is the spectator's selection, however, when you add the rows, columns, corner numbers, quadrants, etc they all total the spectator's choice. Sounds impressive? If you've ever seen it performed, then you'll know that it is!
The teaching style is clear and concise and the book is written in a friendly and humorous way. At 30 pages, there is no fat in this book, and everything taught is straight to the point.
The book is nicely-presented, although there are a couple of typos, but at a tiny fraction of the cost of some similar products, you really can't go wrong.
Overall, if you are interested in the magic square, this really is an excellent resource and it is highly recommended.
I will be looking out for his other Kindle books.

You draw a square containing sixteen smaller squares. Ask someone to give you a number between 20 and fifty. Whatever number they give, "31" for example, you start to enter numbers into the squares, less that 2 minutes have passed when you hand him the filled in boxes, yet
the four corner numbers add up to 31.
The four squares top left, top right, bottom left and bottom right all total 31, and so do the four centre squares. The four diagonal squares in both directions, total 31,so all the horizontal and vertical columns.
Finally you point out two centre numbers of the left column are adde to the two on the righ column yes, 31 again.

It impossible - yet with this system impossibly simple.

    3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting! 28 Sep 2013

One of the simpler methods and stronger for that. But there are flaws, a possible large jump in the 16 numbers used, the possibility of duplicate numbers and negative numbers. Nevertheless, a good method and would produce startling results for the right amount of practice (always practice!)
