I bought the Mantovani CD as background music for my 25th Anniversary celebration. It was wonderful. Like a breath of fresh air sweeping you back to a time when life was less hectic and romance meant romance.

This new compilation for Decca by Julie Sawyer brings together recordings dating from 1958 to 1977 and demonstrating the full range of the wonderful sound of Mantovani. The running time for CD1 is approx 62 minutes and CD2 is approx 67 minutes. The breakdown of recording dates is as follows: 1958 (9); 1959 (4); 1960 (4); 1961 (2); 1964 (2); 1965 (5); 1966 (1); 1967 (5); 1968 (1); 1969 (1); 1971 (1); 1972 (1); 1974 (2); 1978 (1) & 1977 (1).
My favourite items are from CD1 "Moon River"; "Days of Wine & Roses"; "My Way" (nice instrumental solo's and a concert arrangement; "Autumn Leaves & "A Walk in the Black Forest". CD2 "Almost There" " and another concert style arrangement on "Tonight". The sound quality is excellent but the addition of a liner note and who had done the arrangements would have added to the compilation. There is only one arranger credit which seems a bit odd. Even so I am still giving this 5 stars.

Loved this CD - it brought back happy memories of early childhood when my parent's (who were great fans of Mantovani) would put it on the record player.

Lovely background music for dinner or cocktails.
Songs are lovely and beautifully played. The sound of Mantovani fits perfectly for that moment when you relax, why not with a dry martini, and just enjoy life. Read more
