4.0 out of 5 stars A sixties gem 22 Sep 2006
Format:DVD
This is a wonderful, clever and very funny sixties film. Lots of splendid cameo roles by people like Spike Milligan and Raquel Welsh. It's basically about the lengths people will go to for money. Peter Sellers plays Sir Guy Grand, a millionaire who likes playing tricks on the vain, greedy and pompous souls of the world. He needs to find an honest 'son' to inherit his wealth, and in steps Ringo, a down and out beggar, with a good heart. There is a fab soundtrack by Badfinger, and lots of lovely location shots around London in 1969. If you like Raquel Welsh, this is a must - she plays a dominatrix on a slave galley ship!! Ringo is great - he was a natural actor. IT must have been good for him to escape from the Let It Be sessions to come and film this!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Forgotten (cult?!) Classic 23 Feb 2009
By Chris
Format:DVD
I saw this movie years ago and had never forgotten it ... The current economic chaos reminded me to check it out again and a quick check on trusty Amazon showed it was now available in DVD for a bargain price - so good in fact that I ordered another copy to be sent to a friend in Texas (no problems with 'Region' incompatibility for us - we use Linux ;) ... Features a stellar cast and is based on the novel by the great Terry Southern of Dr Strangelove fame. If you haven't seen it then you are missing a treat ... It stands the test of time remarkably well and now resides in my collection Top 10.

Go on order it now - You know you want to, eh?!;)

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant , Brilliant, Brilliant! 20 Aug 2006
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Disregard the bad reviews. Sellers is excellent here, one of his best. Ringo is natural and charmingly irresistible. John Cleese is also on board for a short segment and in top form. Plus you have Roman Polanski, Yul Brenner, a great Badfinger soundtrack and a bizarre story with multi-layered social comment. Actually this film is quite psychedelic and if you are a fan of Python, Perrin, Fawlty, Sellers, Beatles etc, this film is essential..And one of the best endings of all time...

3.0 out of 5 stars A surreal trip to the Sixties
I bought this film to see how Ringo Starr fared in a straight acting role. The role was undemanding and given that was the case he didn't disappoint. Read more
