Reading this book was a deception. It contains a lot of very detailed information about the liberation of Sicily which I personally found of limited interest, notwithstanding the fact that I am an avid reader of WWII books. The main criticism I have is the discrepancy between its title "The shocking true story of America's wartime pact with organized crime" and the conclusion of the author on page 288, Chapter "Ending the myth": "Did the Allies strike a deal with the Mafia to win the war in Sicily? It is a seductive idea that suits many supporters of conspiracy theories - especially those who have long objectedto America's foreign policy. It is just another piece of evidence for them of American skulduggery. But, having investigated the allegation, it appears to be untrue. Far from it, in fact".
In other words, I feal cheated by the author as the title of the book is grossly misleading the buyer/reader.
