Product Description

Review

"Whoever V. is, he offers the sort of advice it is dangerous to refuse." --"Playboy"
"A grimly brutally humorous book at the business world. Consider it a merger, or hostile takeover, so to speak, of "How to Get Ahead in Business Without Really Trying "by "The Godfather." "--"The Washington Post"

Product Description

A leading figure from one of the world's first and best organized conglomerates here reveals management techniques we can all use. Witty, fun, and surprisingly useful, this is a must for the aspiring corporate Machiavelli. Unlike other management guides, The Mafia Manager shuns theoretical verbiage and instead presents the pragmatism and guiding philosophy of the leadership that founded and captained "The Silent Empire" through its centuries of expansion and success. And rather than being seen as the twisted workings of the so-called "criminal" mind, these plans of action and gems of counsel are presented for what they indeed are - the reflection of a penetrating understanding of the dynamics of human nature. The Mafia Manager promises the most unique and practical guidebook on management ever. No reader will look at the workplace in quite the same way. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Format:Hardcover
The success of the Mafia Manager lies much in its brash, unflinching analysis of organizational behavior: what makes people tick, what ticks people off, and the means by which to secure advancement in a world where the most important rules are unwritten.

The advice offered is nothing new, of course. However, it is the delivery, with all the refreshing and tongue-in-cheek Mob references, that drive the author's point home in ways that ordinary "management" books fail. Some might appreciate the humor (I did), and others might not. If you can see big business as a cartel of thugs trying to carve up the profits of an autopilot enterprise (as I do), you will likely find the humor in the Mafia Manager to jibe with your dark cynical and manipulative perspective. On the other hand, Stephen Covey fans seeking to "empower" employees, might understand or appreciate the ruthless tactics suggested by V.

Highly recommended!

The Mafia Manager is all about "what they don't teach you at Harvard Business School but should " The book is an absolute masterpiece and deals with the most uncommon commodity of our times- common sense. It lays bare the world of sharks the real world of modern buiness is. Definitely not recommended reading for "believers" in management jargon of vision, empowerment, longtermism etc etc but a must for anyone who really wants to cut past the crap and get on with the real thing

Using most of the clichés on how the mob is managed this entertaining little book gives practical advices on how these theories are applicable to business life. Or is the author using the mafia management practice as a metaphor to give a new perspective on how business management actually IS performed in many companies? Since most business managers can not wack out a disobedient employee that break the company rules the advices given are of limited value. However the book will give the reader a couple of joyful hours.
