An anthology of different articles and journals collated by the editors (who also contribute with their own work), this is the single most important piece of collated works on the subject. I used this to write my dissertation with for a Video Game Development Course, it gave wonderful sources for citation and a multitude of subjects to cover during my writing. I recommend Paul Marino's book as well as this one for a combined reading that inquires and explores a quite controversial topic that has exploded in popularity on YouTube with "Let's Play" videos in recent years.

One of the first scholarly examinations of machinima 5 July 2013
By S. Higley - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
A must-read for any theorist of machinima. Brilliant essays by leading scholars in a brand new field (such as Friedrich Kirschner, Jeffrey Bardzel, Henry Lowood and Matt Kelland), and blessedly NOT a how-to book on making machinima. This will be a landmark book in the history of a rapidly developing film art.
