Browse the book online
I have worked hard to produce a book which is of the best quality and will really help MFC developers get the most "bang for the buck" out of their applications. The feedback I have received so far from reviewers, colleagues, and early readers has been overwhelmingly positive: the general consensus is that every serious MFC developer will benefit from the 130 carefully organized answers, techniques and explanations provided in the book.

I believe that the best way to help you understand how you can benefit from this book -- next to letting you actually hold it in your hands -- is to let you browse the book online. You can do exactly this by surfing to my web site where you will find more than 150 pages of information excerpted from the printed book: foreword, preface, detailed table of contents, screen shots and figures... As a bonus, you will be able to download all the sample programs and try them on your own computer. -- Give it a try!

I am not sure if this book is ideal for complete beginners, but those with at least SOME awareness of MFC (and needing more than a single dialog box in their applications) will find it ABSOLUTELY INDISPENSIBLE!

Before reading this book, I dreaded the prospect of working with MDI. My latest project was to have a Visual Studio-like interface, and the book answered almost every "how" one could have possibly asked about it! With reference to the "almost", I must note that the book does not discuss individual control functionality (how to use a CTreeCtrl, for example). But it does EXPLAIN and ILLUSTRATE (and very well at that) how to set up communication between that CTreeCtrl embedded in some floating window and a multitude of views that you have in your 3-D editor... Property sheets, splitter windows, printing architecture - you name it, this single volume has it all! STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.

The most usefull computer book I've ever used. I had worked through the excellent Scribble tutorial and wrote some serious applications, but still had some frustrating gaps in my knowledge. This book filled 80% of these gaps in a most efficient way.The book teaches by text description, concise example code plus screen shots in just the right combination.
This book does not cover everything - so look at the index - if you find the topics you need in the index then get the book.

I read a lot of reviews on these books, but I always wonder about the people that write them. Their age, programming experience, how many books they own, etc. I am 43, 10 years of Basic (DOS), Visual Basic, Pascal (DOS), Delphi, C++ (DOS), and Visual C++. I own well over 200 programming books. Now, this books format is different but excellent. The contents are question format, like "How do I get a pointer to the active window?" This book has information you will not easily, if at all, find anywhere else. It is one of the best books I own. I just wish now that he would write one that does not do MFC specifically. Maybe "The Visual C++ Answer Book."
