I surely took notice of Melanie Fiona after listening to her debut, The Bridge. My ears were introduced to a fresh, soulful voice that can surely hold it down among the superb vocals of some of her peers; Keyshia Cole, Jazmine Sullivan, Chrisette Michele etc. The MF Life is really the album that solidifies Melanie as the girl to beat!
This is a solid album, with a mixture of radio-friendly tracks such as Change the Record ft. B.o.B and Can't Say That I Never Loved You, to soulful tracks such as Running ft. Nas, L.O.V.E ft. John Legend, not forgetting the witty, thoughtful lyrics on I Been That Girl and Wrong Side of a Love Song. Its the way she manoeuvres her voice against the big production on the latter that proves Melanie Fiona's volcals are par excellence!
My top favourites are; 4AM, What Am I to Do, Like I Love You and 6AM ft. T-Pain. There had been some talk on blogs with some people disapproving of T-Pain's synthetic autotune merging with Melanie's raw, raspy voice on 6AM - i completely disagree - in fact, i think their voices actually complement each other on this track.
This album is almost flawless that I wonder what Melanie has in store for the third one!
