Product Description

The clocks filled the room where Arnold Thaine was shot dead, all of them wrong, one of them broken by a bullet. On the day of Thaine's death, Grace DeLong had been to visit him that morning. But who was the woman in the brown mackintosh? Who were the other two visitors? And could anything be learnt from the broken clock?

Ferrars at her best 29 April 2003
Format:Hardcover
Justin Emery, recently returned to England after spending six years in Australia, calls on an old friend, Grace de Long, at her cottage in a country village. Grace is a little late and reveals she has been calling on some friends of hers, Arnold and Hester Thaine, but no-one was home. Later that night Grace calls Justin and asks him to accompany her to the Thaine’s house as Arnold has been murdered. Ferrars weaves a clever mystery around the suspects and their alibi’s, finally Justin realises the truth after another murder is committed and the result is the most unlikely scenario the reader can imagine.

Lying Voices 24 May 2011
Format:Paperback
I re-read this after many years. Unlike other detective novels, I remebered it quite well.
The characterisation is convincing, particularly Grace Delong. The motives are more convincing than in many books.
The setting, very traditional, suits the story.

All right, a dose of nostalgia, but worht reading.
