From the Inside Flap

Low–carb and comfort food are phrases you probably don’t associate with each other. If you, like 30 million other people, have ever been on a low–carb diet–or if you’re thinking of starting one because you’ve heard all the impressive new evidence showing how low–carb eating can turn your health around by keeping your insulin levels down and helping you lose weight–you probably know that low–carb foods aren’t usually described as "yummy." What’s been missing from low–carb diets are the comfort foods you crave–the breads, cakes, pastas, and pies that no low–carb plan ever allowed you to have–until now!

Now, with The Low–Carb Comfort Food Cookbook, you can eat such delicious foods as fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, waffles, Mexican favorites, pizza, and a wide variety of desserts–all while restricting your carb intake and getting thin and healthy. Bestselling authors Drs. Michael and Mary Dan Eades, authors of the phenomenal bestseller Protein Power, in concert with the creative genius of chef Ursula Solom, have revolutionized the low–carb diet, offering you easy–to–follow cooking techniques that use everyday ingredients in extraordinary, simple, and delicious new ways.

All while staying thin and looking terrific! This book is truly amazing.

I think the first reviewer is missing the whole point. If you like North American food, this is for you. The best thing about this cookbook, besides the recipes, is the detailed carb and protein counts. Many variations are given, as well as substitutions if need be. All the ingredients can be found in the UK as well, maybe not at your local grocery but at least via online and in health food stores.

I love this book! 15 April 2009
Format:Paperback
This book is worth the money for the bread recipes alone!

I have tried many different low carb bread recipes, most seem to be for breadmakers, but this is a breeze to make by hand and tastes like BREAD!

I have had this book a few weeks, along with several other low carb recipe books that i ordered at the same time. I am just re-reading this one more thoroughly and so far have tried the gnocchi, some muffins and the wilted lettuce salad. All good.

I like to cook and so i find the book fine but some may find the list of ingredients a little daunting. This is more to do with the need to replace the carbs with alternatives that will give a similar effect. I think this is the case with most low carb baking.

Although this book is American i have had no problem with the ingredients so far.

I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who enjoys cooking.

If you're interested in low carb - or these days low gi/gl - then this book is for you. I've got lots of low carb books but I return to this one again and again probably because these two take a common sense approach: not all high carb ingredients are removed but are used in far lower amounts augmented with lower carb "alternatives". Consequently you end up with food that has got the the right properties and food you will actually want to eat. The Magic Rolls alone are worth the cost if only to get a low carb bread crumb recipe to crisp things up a bit in your own recipes. I really like this book and even if Southern Fried Chicken isn't on your list of comfort foods it really is good!
