From the opening violence of "Here Comes the War", through to the uplifting "Bad Old World", Hopeless Causes takes you through an epic journey of pride, passion, hope and faith.
The lyrics are as insired and direct as ever. In "Fate" Justin sings "I'm crying out in fury to the Gods of Fate, come on and get me if you can".
This is an album destined to be played at full blast whilst driving at sunset on the Northbound M6 with the windows down.
Criminally deleted by Sony a few years back, the album is now available again. If you don't have it, or if you had it nicked (like me) then Buy It.
Right from the opening bars of the ferocious "Here Comes The War" to the uplifting and inspiring lyrics of "Bad Old World" Justin, Rob and Nelson take us on a journey through rage(Believe It), pride(My People), bewilderment(Understand U) and hope(White Light).
This album is destined to be played at earsplitting volume whilst caning back home on the Nothbound M6 with sun on the horizon and the windows down.
The album is a step on from T & C and Impurity. Gone are the catchy violin solos of Ed Alleyne-Johnson which gave such life to songs like Purity and Vagabonds. Instead, this album has a rough edge to it. Guitars crash with forceful riffs in Understand U and entrance in These Words and Afternoon Song. Justin's own near death experience was the inpiration for the resurgent White Light ("I'm nearly ready now, to come back again"), and a letter from a long time friend provides the lyrics for Bad Old World ("Dear Justin, I know it's been a long time")
Hopeless Causes has the Army reborn with all their energy, fire and passion. As Justin sings in Fate -
"I'm calling out in fury to the Gods of Fate, Come on and get me if you can"
