As most people might already know, this book is based upon the Christian movie "Fireproof", which is about a man who saves his marriage by completing a character-testing, 40-day list of "dares" suggested to him by his father. Like the movie, the book of course is Christian based as well.

I loved the movie and the book is more of the same. However I looked at both of them from the perspective of a person happily married for over 15 years. I can tell you that while I don't practice all the dares in the book, my spouse and I are good about doing many of them- and of course there's always room for improvement. From my personal experience, I feel like concentrating on the kinds of ideas presented in the book have been absolutely key to making our marriage last.

Now the book itself also consists of a 40-day list of dares. For each day, there's about a page and a half or so of advice, followed by a specific dare and some space for you to write down your personal reflections. Dares range from things such as practicing patience to writing out a renewal of your vows. The guys will probably particularly like Day 32!

As you can tell, I highly recommend going to see the movie and reading the book. In a society that places a high value on looks and money, while sporting a 50% divorce rate, its nice to see more movies and books coming out that get people more focused on the right values in life. Even if you don't do anything more than just glance through the book, you're going to be given something to think about. Other self-help books I enjoyed include "Finding Happiness in a Frustrating World" .

The love dare has been used by many of our friends who have found that love is the key. Not the kind of love that is all about sex lust or self, but the real thing! The kind of love that is in the very core of our beings. The kind of love that the Bible is refering to when we read God is Love. 1 Cor 13 says this kind of love never fails.

I would have to say a 100% I agree and so do many folk spared the horror of a failed marriage with all the damage it does to children, self and society.

This book is truth, undiluted. It will make those of us who say "I'm a good person, it's them" who are causing all the problems reallise that that is a deception and a lie. As you read each day, the truths about your own nature will be revealed and, and the understanding you need to start living a life the way it was inteded for you to live. In fact it is the route to personal happiness and fullfillment.

Will you pay the price for a liftime of valued relationships and honest self assessment.

I purchased this book after watching the Fireproof DVD.
I was intrigued with the movie and wanted to find out more about the book that was a 40 day marriage improover/saver/renewer.
I found it to be a relationship reviver, not just marriage but my relationship with God feels much closer now too.
Although it is a 40 day challenge i feel that is only a kick start and the journey once started is ongoing and neverending.
If your relationships are worth saving/improoving.. this book is a must for reading.

This book is a real life-changer.
40 dares over 40 days that really make you stop and think about your marriage. Very biblically based - a real treasure. I've done it and have now passed it on to a friend.
Highly recommended

If you've seen the 2008 movie "Fireproof" then you'll know exactly what this book is. But you don't have to have seen the film to read and benefit from the book - it stands alone.

The "Love Dare" is a 40 day programme for one half of a couple to carry out on their own. Each day has a short meditation, a bible verse, and a 'dare': something, perhaps something very simple, to do for the other person.

The book's premise is that true love is unconditional, so therefore you need to keep going through the book regardless of your partner's reaction. If, as in the film, things are thrown back in your face, that's going to be hard going...but quite possibly lifechanging.

This book certainly has the power to rescue a failing marriage. But it would also bring fresh love and fine tuning to any relationship. And check out the appendices for a simple list of questions to ask your partner concerning his or her thoughts, feelings and aspirations. Simply doing that did me a power of good.

"Fireproof" is a thought provoking film and book about relationships. The old fireman's adage: "Never leave your partner behind" applies to our relationship with our partner/spouse. The film and book looks at the basic principles behind good relationships - and the director's commentary to the film is excellent and worth listening to and not preachy. This book "The Love Dare" is given by the father to the central character in the film "Fireproof" and consists of 40 days of tasks/actions. It's so very difficult to have a healthy relationship with our partner/spouse if we do not have a relationship with God. Do watch the film and read this book. There is an associated study guide for the film for you and your partner to work through together and this book can be given to someone who has a relationship problem. I loved the film and found this book helpful.
