Product Description

It is now six years since the secret disaster at Jurassic Park; six years since that extraordinary dream of science and imagination came to a crashing end - the dinosaurs destroyed, the park dismantled, the island indefinitely closed to the public. There are rumors that something has survived. Michael Crichton is at it again. The Lost World continues the horrifying and thrilling tale begun in Jurassic Park.

This is a must read book. The story follows on from where Jurassic Park (the novel) left off. The Lost World is an action packed adventure from start to finish. If you have seen the film then you have to read the book to see how superior it is. If only the film had been made to the same story line as the book.

There are many fine reviews already listed so I will be succinct. This book is a sequel to Jurassic Park. We join the cast of characters six years after the dinosaur island park disaster in which humans fought off genetically engineered replicas of prehistoric animals. One survivor of that attack is now a member of a group who returns to the area, another island called Site B, and meet up with the remaining dinosaurs. The book does have strong language and violence. Even though it fills like you are reading 'Jurassic Park' again, it is worth reading.

Really poor pacing 16 May 2011
Format:Hardcover
I was looking forward to reading this but was sadly dissapointed by the pace of it. Everytime you think something exciting is about to happen (well, almost everytime) the dinosaur in question just relieves itself. The main problem with the book is that it tries a little too hard to educate you in the lifestyles of dinosaurs. There was one bit where a character was in trouble and I was wondering what was going to happen to him, then it cuts back to six pages of a different set of characters in the high hide lecturing about dinosaur behaviour. I've really struggled with this book but I have to admit it's picking up the pace near the end. This is a rare case where the film was much better than the book.

Great Book
This is a great book, but i'm a big fan of anything Jurassic Park - I even like all 3 films! Dr Malcolm, the same annoying character from the first book, is still annoying.

A lecture in screenplay format
Jurassic Park was a good read, and more complex than the resulting film. But, having read a few Crichton books since then, I'm getting tired of his constant lecturing. Read more

I read this one before seeing the film too
I enjoyed the book, it was a little less preachy than the first novel, but still delivered a good adventure. Again, I felt that the film was a missed opportunity. Read more

Brilliant follow-up pity that the film was so hackneyed
For some reason, when making 'The Lost World' into a film, Spielberg chose to completely ignore the plot of the book, much to my sorrow. Read more
