"* 'Praise for Roberta Kray's Previous Novels Well into Martina Cole territory, Roberta Kray's first novel gets under the skin of the London underworld with no problem' - Mark Timlin, Independent * 'Action, intrigue and a character-driven plot are delivered in well-written style, sure to please any crime fiction fans.' - Woman * 'You might expect a crime novel written by the widow of Reg Kray would be tough... and it is. Recommend this to fans of Ian Rankin.' - Booklist * 'The Debt convinces on every page - not only about the gangster world but also as a portrait of a woman whose life has been changed by forces beyond her control.' - Chicago Tribune"

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good read 7 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback
This is the first book I have read by Roberta Kray. I have read all Martina Cole's books, Mandasue Heller and Kimberley Chambers. I must say that this is as good as they are. A refreshing difference, but thorough enjoyed the read. A very good story, with a twist. I also liked the fact that there was hardly any swear words, which sometimes are a little cringing and in my view unnecessary. Am starting The Pact now and even though I've only read 10 pages, I cant put it down. Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars An ok book... 25 Oct 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have to admit folks, I am NOT a Roberta Kray fan at all and only downloaded this book because it was marked down to 99p! I had previously started another of her books which contained so much profanity it put me right off and I deleted it from my Kindle before I got past the first couple of pages.

I am not a prude, I just don't see the sense in filling the book with profanity...it maybe the language of the day but it's not my language of the day. I suppose I was a bit bias with this book so started off with preconceived ideas but thankfully this book has no profanity...I was stunned! However I still didn't enjoy the book much although a passable read to while away the time when you have nothing else to read.

Mrs Kray has certainly utilized her life as a gangsters wife to full advantage in that she has first hand knowledge of the London crime world which she uses as her plots for her many books.

Sorry to disappoint die hard Kray fans, I know how popular she is but her books just are not for me.

Thank you

Didn't quite seem to get going. Plot seemed a bit disjointed. Has a way to go to be on par with other writers of this genre.
