Being very well--self--educated in Judeo-Christian antiquity, one question always bothered me regarding Judas Iscariot's betrayal of Jesus. What was Judas' MMO.
His Opportunity was 30 shekels, but his means and motive? hmm. Even having studied the Gnostic gospels along with the canonicals I still was yet to pin point a certain answer that I was happy with. I couldn't let "may-be's" be my answer. As a cryptic crossword fan it was bugging me.
Well, this book by B. D. Ehrman explains it all.
Due to the fact that there are no literal 'ah, that's it!' obvious answers in the canonical gospels to what Judas' motives were, each canonical author tells his own version of events, which causes one to doubt the actual historical accuracy of what is written. And left unturned. This book contains the answers. The (build-up) or, all angles approach Ehrman tackles brings the answer(s) well into light.
I can say from reading this book that I can now sleep at night without any more worries to answers I myself wasn't happy with.
A great book if one seeks to know Judas' MMO's.
I would say - if one is new to this field - that purchasing James Robinson's 'Nag Hammadi Gnostic scriptures' and getting well acquainted although not 100% necessary would help. That just depends on how far one's details of what's what needs to be covered.
Ehrman very much shines light on this particular subject.
Worth every penny for the curious customer.
