Product Description

This is the definitive book for all those who think that they are hopeless at art! Author Christian Furr is the resident artist on Channel 4's Richard and Judy show and is often seen showing celebrities how to draw and paint. He has a wealth of experience in teaching the artistically challenged and is an expert at building confidence in drawing. In this engaging, simple book he starts by showing, with step-by-step guidance, how to draw the basics. The book then works up from these confidence-builders to show how easy it is to improve and have a go with more adventurous materials such as acrylics and watercolours.

In this age of sharks in tanks and Turner prize art that goes completely over my head, finally here is a book that tells people who are interested what they want to know.

As an art teacher myself I am always looking for new ideas and this book has totally inspired me and given me a new zest to pass onto my pupils.

What Christian is doing for art is similar to what Jamie Oliver is doing for school dinners - he is making art accessible and understandable. I think that this book should be on every school curriculum. It is easy to follow and a must for everybody who wants to be able to paint and draw but never thought that they could.

Astounding.. 17 Jan 2006
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
I would say that this book is a must-have for anybody who wants to understand how to draw and paint. I was given it as a gift by a friend who knows I have always wanted to know how to draw.

I started doing the quite simple exercises and worked my way through the book and before I knew it I was drawing like I have never done before.

I have even framed some of the things I have created with the help of this book, from the final exercises.

The curious thing is that altough it is a solid introduction, it is not difficult to get into at all. It is like everything you need to know has been condensed. It is the opposite of a weighty tome. It is very enjoyable and its been done in a way that you can dip in and out of.

Once you know how to see like an artist it is like a door has been opened for you and it is truly astounding just how much your drawing and the way you look at things changes. What I want to know is why I was never taught these things at school?

I think this book is a classic and it will be around for a long time to come.

Very helpful book 28 Nov 2005
Format:Hardcover
After watching Christian and his art tips on A Brush with Fame I decided to purchase this book.

I didn't know what to expect as it looked just like a novel. I wasn't disappointed though as it taught me all the information I needed to get started that I couldn't find anywhere else. I'm going to be dipping into this book for a long time to come. Thoroughly recommend!
