Book Description

In a lonely bar in eastern Turkey, ex-National Geographic photojournalist Sam Ward is hired to find an eccentric professor who disappeared high atop Mount Ararat, fabled resting spot of Noah's Ark.

Now running for their lives, Sam and company are about to come face-to-face with the greatest archaeological discovery of all time....

**Acclaim for the novels of J.R. RAIN**

"Gripping, adventurous, and romantic—J.R. Rain's THE LOST ARK is a breakneck thriller that traces the thread of history from Biblical stories to current-day headlines. Be prepared to lose sleep!"
—James Rollins, international bestselling author of ALTAR OF EDEN and THE DOOMSDAY KEY

"I enjoyed MOON DANCE immensely. The protagonist, Samantha Moon, is a female vampire with a husband and children. Those predate her condition; six years ago she was attacked by a vampire and rendered into one. Now she's trying to carry on with family and private eye business, and she's a feisty, skilled person, so is doing mostly okay. It is not a horror story; she buys animal blood to eat and doesn't generally prey on humans. But her husband has an increasing problem with her coldness—not of spirit, but of body. 'You sicken me and scare the hell out of me,' he tells her. 'And when I touch you it's all I can do to not gag.' She replies, 'Words every wife wants to hear.' I love this! She really doesn't deserve to be frozen out of her marriage, yet his attitude is understandable. In the course of the novel she solves the mystery she is tackling for a client, and finds a new romantic interest. What makes it special are her character and nature. I sure wouldn't have kicked her out of bed. I recommend it as light reading, odd as that may sound."
—Piers Anthony, New York Times bestselling author of A SPELL FOR CHAMELEON and ON A PALE HORSE

"MOON DANCE is absolutely brilliant!"

"MOON DANCE is a must read. If you like Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum, bounty hunter, be prepared to love J. R. Rain's Samantha Moon, vampire private investigator."
—Eve Paludan, author of LETTERS FROM DAVID

"Impossible to put down. J.R. Rain's MOON DANCE is a fabulous urban fantasy."
—April Vine, author of THE MIDNIGHT ROSE

"DARK HORSE is one of the best books I've read in a long time! A great classic detective story with a modern twist. Unique and interesting characters (I think I'm half in love with Jim Knighthorse now!), a great plot that kept me guessing until the end, and some of the funniest lines I've read anywhere. Rain does an amazing job of blending suspense, mystery and humor in this fantastic debut novel destined for the keeper shelf."
—Gemma Halliday, award winning author of SPYING IN HIGH HEELS

"I totally loved THE BODY DEPARTED. As someone who communicates with those who are either earthbound or have crossed over—your descriptions and interpretations of the dialogue and circumstances could not have been written more accurately. My favorite scene is the one of Jesus stepping down from the cross and then the passionate and compassionate way it was treated as he went back to the cross. I will relive that for a long time to come. You're a wonderfully descriptive writer who paints a very creative, visionary canvass based in a paranormal pallet that only a few experience and many can enjoy. Thank you for your talent."

5.0 out of 5 stars The Lost Ark 25 Jan. 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As the previous reviewer said I also didn't know what to expect from this book / Author. However, I based my decision to purchase it on the fact that the previous reviewer said it was like the work of James Rollins and Andy McDermott. I can completely agree. It is an adventure book set on a mountain where Noah's Ark apparently landed. The "hero" is a mountain guide/photographer who is hired by the daughter of an archaeologist who has gone missing on the mountain whilst searching for the Ark. Some parts are slightly far fetched but for those who enjoy the work of the above two Authors you will love it. Without giving anything away this book has all the makings of a great adventure book with bad guys, guns, mountain tunnels, glaciers, etc - lose yourself for a few hours - I did!

THE LOST ARK J.R.Rain (Kindle Edition)

This is the first of J. R. Rain's novels that I have sampled and overall it stands up very well compared to similar archaeological thrillers which I had read previously. The author's style is casual and easy to read, the first person narrative peppered with humour and witticisms and the protagonist comes across as a likable character who, although multi-talented, makes mistakes, doesn't always win every fight and seems to survive on his good luck and ability to see the amusing side of every situation.

I have noted that the author also writes screenplays and that is exactly how this novel plays out, as though it was written for television or a film, just the right amount of humour, action and archaeological interest with an open ending just waiting for a sequel.

The action is set around Mount Ararat and a search for a missing archaeologist on a quest to find the remains of the Biblical Noah's ark; and there is plenty of action, wild animals, natural disasters, quick triggered Turkish soldiers and Arab terrorists stand between the explorers and their goal.

I personally like my archaeological thriller to be grounded at least partially in reality; it is very difficult to have a successful conclusion to a fictional story when finding the sought for treasure would have a world wide cultural impact and can leave the reader feeling that the boundary has been crossed between fiction and fantasy, proof that Atlantis was real or that a major diety does exist would be unlikely to go un-noticed; but Mr. Rain handles the archaeological parts of the tale well and believably and without the use of over the top and impossible explanations.

3.0 out of 5 stars Suspend belief and it's a fun adventure! 12 Mar. 2013
By Lianne
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
An intriguing plot, fairly well written, pacey and with sprinkling of humour amongst the action, and all set in a stunning location. Sounds like it all should add up to a very good book, right? Well, I did enjoy it but the plot seemed to a bit crazy, and the events that unfold just get more and more unbelievable as the book progresses. The main irritation for me was that the 'hero' of the story puts Jack Reacher to shame with his ability to survive any mishap and defeat any enemy. Plunging into icy waters on a snow-capped mountain, getting shot, or simply knocked out, he shakes it all off with ease, and while the survival skills of a mountain guide are no surprise, being able to take on armed soldiers, be comfortable with various guns and have the ability to fly a helicopter stretch things a little far. Still, 3 starts for the entertainment value!

3.0 out of 5 stars good to a point 10 Sept. 2013
By Stan
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Pity Harrison Ford has aged, he'd play this perfectly. Not an archaeologist this time but a guide, hunting the lost Ark accompanied by beautiful feisty woman searching for her father and beset by baddies. The lead character is well drawn with some background and some nice asides and oneliners, though the others are sketchy, and the setting in Turkey comes across well with some quite memorable support characters. The story holds up well as they climb Mt Ararat and, after various clashes with the baddies find first the father then the Ark (cue Sean Connery as daddy).
But the Ark is disappointing - too well preserved to be believable and even has wall paintings - and then it turns into a shoot-em-up. The hero just happens to be a helicopter pilot, daddy can handle a gun, the baddies cant shoot straight and the villains come to sticky ends. Almost as if the author was considering film rights and realised he was short on spectacular action. Cue helicopters, missiles etc.
So started well, shame it didn't stay on the same track. But Very readable and I'll check out this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my fav kindle books so far!!! 22 Jan. 2011

Well I didn't really know what to expect from this book as it is a genre I normally read but not a name I had heard of before.

I was really pleasantly surprised, the characters are well written and multi faceted, the 'quest' and premise I have read before from other authors but I really enjoyed this rendition and would recomend anyone who likes James Rollins, Andy Mcdermott etc will enjoy this. In fact I am off to see what else J.R. Rain has written in this genre!
