I can thoroughly recommend Mr Beesley's account of his experiences on the Titanic: full of historically correct facts, a highly descriptive work, re-told with heartfelt compassion and sypmathy for and empathy with his fellow passengers and the members of the crew.
Any Titantic enthusiast wishing to feel the atmosphere of what it must have been like could do no better than to read this rich narrative of events. Although Mr Beesley's style of narration may seem to some these days over-descriptive and even slightly ponderous in tone, do not be put off, every chapter is well worth the recounting.
In particular, Chapter IV, The Sinking of the Titanic Seen from a Lifeboat, is haunting in its detail and description.
This is as close as you will get to learn first-hand of the sequence of events on that maiden voyage.
