Product Description

This book will be essential reading for anyone interested in the conflict in Uganda and in 'terror' more generally. --David Keen, LSE

For those interested in a critical alternative to the official line from the ICC, this is a collection to read.  It brings together a range of scholars, bright and bold, from within and outside the continent, joined by a shared commitment to a future for Africa beyond crime and punishment. --Mahmood Mamdani, Author of 'Saviours and Survivors: Darfur, Politics and the War on Terror'

Why bad things happen in Africa... there are no excuses for Joseph Kony and his bestial Christianity , but there are reasons for it rooted in the politics and history of Uganda and its neighbours. This book goes beyond the simplistic media stereotypes to provide the best analysis yet of how these child-abusers continue to defy international justice. --Geoffrey Robertson QC

Format: Paperback
This first class multi authored book deals with the inception, rise, fall and dispersion of the Lords Resistance Army which from 1980-2010(at least) created havoc with killings, massacres and abductions in northern Uganda, southern Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic for no apparent political reason other than self glorification.
Following the Lightning Thunder offensive of 2008, made up of several African armys, which was only partially sucessful tht LRA dispersed and sections became active in the Congo and Sudan but the leader Joseph Kony remains elusive.
A very difficult read which is made worse by the multiple acronyms for which there is no list.

The book goes into detail about Joseph Kony and the LRA mass abduction of children and genocidal killing of civilians by the Ugandan border. The writer is a journalist that met Joseph Kony and member of the LRA command and has recorded many interviews with children and fighters that were abducted plus case studies of the alleged number and ages of the abductees. This is a very informative book with alot of information on the LRA,local armies and countries fighting the against Kony's rebels
Best resource on the LRA 25 April 2013

If you are interested in learning more about the LRA conflict, this is perhaps the best single resource for the topic. The book covers all of the primary aspects of the conflict: the experience of being in the LRA, the politics of the war, problems with how we understand the LRA, the role of the ICC, etc. It also includes a very good analysis of the Juba Peace Process. The contributors are among the top LRA scholars today. I'm a graduate student working on the LRA and this book is usually my go-to resource. It's bibliography also is a good starting point for further research.
