Product Description

The State Opening of Parliament. The most magnificent royal occasion of the year. The Queen, her Cabinet and all the most powerful people in the land are gathering in one room, the House of Lords. And none of them know they are about to endure the most terrifying day of their lives. Not all of them will survive. Sitting amongst the hostages are two young men, the sons of the British Prime Minister and the US President. It creates the cruellest challenge any leader could face. As the world watches on live television and holds its breath, President and Prime Minister are torn in two between their duty as statesmen, and their love as parents. Yet others have their agendas, too, not least of them Harry Jones, a man who is already undergoing the worst day of his life when he becomes swept up in the maelstrom. What can he do about this act of terrorism when the most powerful people are rendered helpless? He can ask one simple question - why?

Cracking good story 6 Feb 2008
By Bluebell TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is an un-put-downable book. It kept me reading late into the night! Michael Dobbs succeeds in keeping the tension throughout as to the outcome of the siege in the House of Lords. It's like a cross between a Frederick Forsyth thriller and a political satire. Some of the time you're holding your breath as to what will happen next and the next laughing at the wittiness of the writing.

Enjoyable quick read 12 Sep 2008
Format:Paperback
If you're looking for an intriguing plot, nothing too demanding, but a story that cracks along at a good pace, then this is well worth a read.

I have read a number of books by this author and I found this to be the best so far. The portrayal of the various characters from the publicity hungry politicians seeking to shift blame onto someone else to the selfdoubting Prince of Wales reinforces the opinions probably held by most people. The storyline left me thinking, surely this could never happen, but.........

Parliament uncovered!!
Once again Michael Dobbs has produced a book well worth reading. Maybe a little 'over the top' but the story flowed well and held the attention of the reader

If this is lying by the pool in your holiday house, fine
Not particularly well written in terms of prose, sentimental, cliched, full of sterotyped characters, some pointless and unresolved threads - but certainly action packed. Read more

The Lord's Day
Whilst being a bit far fetched - although possible - it made an interesting read and gave a new slant on the Houses of Parliament and Royal Family.
