It follows a number of headline festival dates and visits to Europe. As on 'Smoke & Mirrors','The Looking Glass' features vocals shared by: - Julianne Regan (All About Eve),Evi Vine and Amandine Ferrari,plus new guest vocalist,Tallulah Rendall. This is the first release to feature Andy Jackson on guitar - the Pink Floyd 'twice Grammy nominated' recording engineer joined the band after mastering the album. He's alongside Bob Loveday on violin (of Van Morrison and Bob Geldof's bands),Simon Rippin on drums (ex NFD/Nefilim/Fields of the Nephilim),and the core duo of guitarist Steve Carey (Adoration/ This Burning Effigy) and bassist Tony Pettitt (Fields of the Nephilim). 'The Looking Glass' is a 2-disc set: a DVD with nine songs filmed live at Goldtop Studio,plus a CD with five new recordings of interesting covers. The tracks on the mini-album CD are: - Remember (Walking In The Sand) [Shangri-Las cover],Street Spirit [Radiohead cover],Play Dead [Bjork cover],Venus In Furs [Velvet Underground cover],and 2000 Light Years From Home [Rolling Stones cover].The songs on the DVD are: - Gods Pride,Reach Out,Iron In The Soul,The Dark Half,All My Love,Sin,Fire For You,Trashed Treasure and Play Dead,filmed a week before their debut live gig. The DVD soundtrack has been remixed by Andy Jackson at Pink Floyd's studio; tracks with an earlier mix can be seen at their Youtube channel. Shrinkwrapped,all-card digipak.

I haven't heard anything as good as this for years.
It is an incredibly powerful 5 track cd and a full dvd. The cd is the best of its genre I have heard for a very long time with Julaianne sounding every bit like very very early (think D for Desire style) All About Eve and the following 4 tracks in the same style. This is immense.
The dvd is just incredible with a sound that makes me feel 20 plus years younger and in spite of no Julianne, it is the complete picnic. This is why I have loved this style of music for so long in spite of there being such a lack of it over the years.
Just get this and dream!

Although this is a very good album the DVD doesn't do them justice. Yes it's the band singing live but it is in a studio. In a live show the band are beyond brilliant and it would have been nice to see the DVD ( which is the main item here ) reflect that. The CD of covers is good and Play Dead has become a staple part of their live act. All in all a very good purchase but you cannot help but be a little dissapointed that this is not a full album of new material.

I've just seen this band live and they are absolutely awesome, which is good news as one of the discs in this pack is a live DVD recorded at Goldtop Studios. If you don't know of The Eden House they are a "goth supergroup" made up of various musicians from a range of genres, not just goth (Violinist Bob Loveday has played with Van Morrison and guitarist Andy Jackson is a long-time collaborator with Dave Gilmour and Pink Floyd) but the star of the show has to be the vocalist, Amandine Ferrari - she has a vocal range that defies physiology and brings a passion to the songs that is tangible. The other disc is a CD of covers, which on the whole are quite good - the cover of Radiohead's Street Spirit is the standout track by far but the rest of the tracks don't quite live up to the exceptionally high standard of their debut CD "Smoke and Mirrors" but don't let that put you off because it's still a very good DVD/CD set and definitely worth buying for the DVD alone.

A complimentary addition to the Smoke and Mirrors album. This contains mainly cover versions of some great alternative tracks but done in The Eden House's inimitable style. Read more
