Well worth the read 11 Sep 2006
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I've never written a review on Amazon before, but feel compelled to correct the previous one here. "The long kill" is as good a read as any of Hill's books - and better than some.

Hill, with his usual expertise at creating believable characters of flesh and blood, delves into the main characters' personalities and shows how good and bad can get blurred once you understand people's history.

Although slightly predictable at some points, it's a great thriller, that I was unable to put down until I finished it - only to immediately start rereading it, because I didn't want to say goodbye to the characters yet.

If you want to explore Hill's books outside of the magnificent Dalziel series, this one and "Death of a dormouse" are definitely must-reads.

This book is early Hill, with an average plot that can be read easily. I give it five stars, because it has one of the most dramatic endings that I have ever read. I cannot give away the plot, but trust me, it is worth reading to arrive at a most cinematographic finale.

I recommend this book, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I started many years ago with the Dalziel and Pascoe books and when I ran out of these I moved on to Mr Hill's earlier material and have never been disappointed. Particularly recommend The Spy's Wife, The Only Game and The Collaborators. The Joe Sixsmith books are also very entertaining.
