I'm a massive fan of the film, and if you've seen it you can't help but notice the bizarre synth/jazz overtures...especially the last scene. Well if you want to own those, buy this..it has them all and is excellent! But..I only gave it 4 stars...because there are some really dodgy tracks at the end which were from scenes in the movie (like a cover of The Clash's London Calling)...but that shouldn't bother you if you want the movie sounds, cos you're probably not gonna sit and listen to this as one piece. Buy it if you're serious about loving the score!

Avoid this edition. It is recorded from the vinyl!!

If you want the original soundtrack Buy The long good Friday 25th anniversary 2x DVD and when you get it you will find that a 3rd disc is included is the soundtrack!!! Some people are asking up to £225 for a copy of this soundtrack on Amazon. You can get this D.V.D through Play.com.

This is a great album, if you discount the last few tribute / "inspired-by-the-film" tracks. Amazing late 70s UK synths and mean strings/brass combo backed with groovy disco rhythm. You can't go wrong with it. Except, that is, when it's recorded straight from a less than perfect vinyl copy of the album as this is. Yep folks, it's there for all to hear - rumble, static and pops to whisk you straight back to the era of the film itself. Do not try this with headphones. A poor excuse for a digital "mastering" and a let down for an anotherwise quite remarkable album.

Thank you. Great service. Came earlier than I thought. Love the CD. Haven't stopped playing it yet. Some slightly strange tracks, but the other better known ones make up for this.

Powerful music that stands on its own 28 May 2003
By Chris Ward - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
If you've seen "The Long Good Friday," you know the value of Francis Monkman's music in the film's overall success-- its propulsive beats move the story along and act as an enriching element. The brilliant opening and closing themes, with their glitzy sax sound, echo the flash of Harold Shand's crime organization, all sheen and flash on the outside, but raw and violent on the inside. The **** film features a **** soundtrack, and it can be listened to time and again (I just put it on again for the 100th time last week-- still sounds fresh.) Warning: one track is a reggae song featuring vocals by Bob Hoskins; those without strong stomachs should avoid. All else is sterling-- buy it.

Do not get this inferior version! 18 Feb. 2006
By Sir Cecil - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This is a shocking CD, all-too-clearly lifted direct from an LP and absolutely riddled with clicks and pops. Horrible. Avoid like the plague. I can't imagine anyone reviewing such a dire disc positively unless they were trying to sell one.

The version on Silva Screen label is the only one worth having, but it now seems to sell at crazy high prices.

The music itself is excellent and I only hope Silva re-release it sometime soon.
