Product Description

Product Description

The midnight moon rode high in the sky above the storm clouds sweeping in from the west, and the house seemed to transmute the moonlight into something terrible and evil. The broken chimneys stretched up like hands to the heavens, the eyeless sockets of the windows staring intently along the twisting drive. There were eldritch shadows in the house. On the floor of the library at the rear of the house, the strange cabalistic designs glowed with an eerie, devilish light. There was a flickering inside the room as of corpse candles, a cold radiance, a manifestation of the aura of evil that had never left the place, which was crystallised inside its very walls. This was a house of evil, filled with THE LONELY SHADOWS of the dead!

Also included in this collection are "The Seventh Image," "Shirley's Ghost," and the two Cthulhu Mythos stories, "Undersea Quest" and "Innsmouth Bane."

First-rate horror by a master of the genre!

5.0 out of 5 stars Looking Forward to More 1 Oct 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
The late John Glasby's tales that deal with Lovecraft's Mythos are something special, so much so that I've ferreted them out when and where I can. To see them start to appear on Kindle is simply delightful.

"The Lonely Shadows" comprises 5 stories:
- The Lonely Shadows
- The Seventh Image
- Shirley's Ghost
- Undersea Quest
- Innsmouth Bane

All of these tales are a rewarding read and definitely worth the price of your purchase. You begin to read them, seeing them as initially simplistic, but soon you find the dramatic undertone that sweeps you up and keeps you reading to the end.

Enjoyable and excellent value. Don't miss this, or his other weird, horror, or mythos materials.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable mythos 10 July 2013

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
For fans of H P Lovecraft there is no shortage of mythos by other authors to choose from. The quality, however, can be rather variable. Gladly, whilst no Lovecraft, does a good job of evoking the horror of the mythos. Here we have a selection of tales, some original and some offering stories set around the events at Innsmouth. All are worth reading, and other than a couple of typos in this kindle edition, I recommend it to lovecraftian enthusiasts.

4.0 out of 5 stars more great horror from glassby 23 Dec 2012
By chrisam - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
This collection consists of five longish tales by the previously neglected 20th century British author and scientist, John S. Glasby. It lives up to the standard set in its companion volume, The Thing in the Mist.

The final two stories are set in everyone's favorite seaside resort. You guessed it Lovecraftians: Innsmouth, Massachusetts. The first three are fine spooky mood pieces. What can I say? I like this book Give it a try, horror freaks.
