The Lonely Beast is a most lovely book that is a huge hit with my two younger children (7 and nearly 4), and is one that is asked for again and again. It is the tale of a quest for friends, a journey across mountains and seas, and all beautifully illustrated in a bright, colourful style that really appeals to children. It is full of humour and friendly creatures along the way, as well as the occasional gentle touch of uncertainty and excitement to make it a very enjoyable read. It is just the right length too, and with a happy ever after ending it is perfect bed-time reading.
Here is a book that really does tick all the boxes to make for a well-read, much-loved children's book.

I first heard of this book on a Literacy course in May and quickly purchased it. It is a fantastic story and the children in my class just love TLB. I introduced him to the children before reading the story so they didn't know there was a picture book about him so were delighted to see him in print. We have made big books, created written instructions and even had yummy cake! The children have really enjoyed every aspect of the book. I can highly recommend this book to anyone who teaches or has young children.

Spent a long time in the book shop looking for something for my niece. It's hard when you have no kids to judge what's they'd enjoy and what's age-appropriate... The best I could do is look for a very simple story that I enjoyed reading. I put down most other books after glancing at a page or two, but this one I read from cover to cover. It was funny, simple, well-drawn, well-structured, and well-written. The theme of a lonely beast travelling across the world looking for other beasts to be friends with is just lovely. Most importantly, it's a big hit with my niece - I'm told she brings it everywhere with her and has taken to naming the beasts from the various countries.
