Terrific value 2cd/64 track album that covers the Je-wel/RCA/early Monument period. There are two albums-the 1960 Sun issue 'Roy at The Rockhouse'(of tracks from 1956-8)and the 1961 released first Monument LP-'Lonely and Blue' plus tracks not on the albums from 1955-61 which were singles 'A' and 'B' sides.
From the rockabilly and country of the Je-wel/Sun era-to the attempts by Chet Atkins at RCA to turn Roy into a teeny bopper(which happily failed miserably, but did produce the rather good 'Almost 18')to the early Monument singles and then into the classics-'Runnin'Scared' and 'Cryin'
'Lonely&Blue' was the first album I bought and I love it still.'Only the Lonely' and 'Blue Angel' are there but so too are the fabulous 'Blue Avenue','Come back to me'.'I'll say it's my fault'and 'I can't stop lovin' you'-the 'b' side of 'I'm Hurtin'(also on the album),and in 1961 rated by many reviewers as superior to the Ray Charles version released that year.Could have been a very interesting contest had the single been 'flipped'.
Chronological order could have been achieved by moving the location of the albums on each cd-they come at the end of each-but I didn't have a problem with this when i listened to the cds.
Nice cover-they've used the photo on the UK 'Stage Show Hits' ep(and the UK 'Oh Pretty Woman' album)-one of the best-with a nice clear glasses shot on the rear that was used on the UK Monument 'Greatest Hits' sleeve.
Great music from the most unique and distinctive voice there has been in popular music.Just listening to the almost apologetic 'Seems to Me' and then the incredible finale to 'Runnin'Scared'-3 years apart-gives a fascinating insight into how,as Boudleaux Bryant once said of Roy,'the lamb roared'.

I was pleased with this 2 CD product. I particularly like Roy Orbison and his voice is fantastic.
This product is a welcome addition to my collection.
