The title says Diagrammatic History and that is what it is - a large format colour diagram, reminiscent of the familiar Underground map. This is a map of the London Underground showing exactly when every line (and segment of line) and every station was opened and any subsequent closures, as well as all the changes in station names. There are a few odd explanatory paragraphs, but most of the information lies in the map. I found this presentation excellent as it provided, quite literally, a comprehensive picture of the odd pieces of information I had gleaned from other sources. My 6-year-old son particularly enjoyed tracing the tracks by the years and seeing how the undergroud had formed (and disappeared !) over the years. Overall, I found this a very good introduction to the London Underground, although it may be best appreciated in conjunction with a historical account (we found John Glover's "London's Underground" an excellent companion book).

There are many stations on London's Underground which have closed down over the years. There are also many books on the subject but this diagrammitic history shows a map of all the stations that have closed on the underground clearly and concisely. It also tells you other information such as when the stations opened and closed, even if only for refurbishment, and when certain portions of the track were opened. This book is a must have for anyone studying the history of the London Underground as it clearly shows what happened and makes it much easier to see and understand. This is not just for the underground enthusiast. It will provide interest to anyone who has ever travelled the tube!

Yes I mean it - sounds dry and boring but is a treasure for those who know and love London and its transport systems.

Train lovers bible
This is a really good map. It shows when lines were opened and closed and when they changed names. I only goive this a 4 star rating because the delivery was slow. Read more
