I am a fan of Elspeth Thompson's column in the Telegraph; I think she writes wonderfully about gardening. This books sounds as though it is just going to be useful to Londoners but in fact it has all kinds of information that everyone will enjoy. For example there is lots on garden design and on what plant to put where, guides to houseplants, growing your own food etc as well as a FANTASTIC mail order directory for all kinds of plants and seeds.

I don't think that enough was made at time of publication of the garden guide which occupies about half of this book. If you live in London, finding out about green spaces can be a slightly tricky business, and Elspeth Thompson visited every single one and tells you what to expect, what looks nice - not just in Hyde Park, or even in Chelsea Physic Garden, but even down to cafes and restaurants and garden centres. Really worth having if you are a nosy London gardener who wants to plan your next snooping expedition.

I bought this book after listening to a very informative and interesting talk on the numerous green areas of London to visit and was and was advised to get this book by the person giving the talk.. I particulary like the section on London Gardens which I found very informative. I look forward to visiting some of them in the coming months.
