This is an enjoyable book to read, each entry provides a kind of summary of the achievement of the person commemorated, but also sheds brief light on his or her personality (in contrast to Derek Sumeray's London Plaques book, which is more an assembly of facts but has more illustrations of the locations). This book provides, as another reviewer has indicated, few pictures, but is elegantly written and has a helpful set of maps at the beginning. It's a nice size, too, slips well into the jacket pocket, unlike the large tome by Emily Cole (Lived in London). Cole's book is a real feast for anyone interested in London, beautifully written and illustrated, but a book to enjoy - because of it size - at home. Rennison's book could be used as its little brother, the one for the road.
