I really can't find sufficient words to stress how amazing this book is.
Dettmer is a genius. In the first couple of chapters he nails TOC in to your head in such a concise and pertinent manner you'll be walking round in a daze for a few hours. Imagine "The Goal" and "It's Not Luck", and probably a few other books thrown in for good measure, all condensed in to 2 chapters! This book gets straight to the point and with every paragraph justifies it's price.
Dettmer then goes on to provide an in-depth analysis and explanation of the Categories of Legitimate Reservation - something that most other TOC books barely touch upon. Armed with this knowledge your whole understanding of TOC will be greatly amplified. He then goes on to discuss various logic trees in superb clarity and detail thus giving you a much better understanding of why, when and how to use them. He deviates slightly from some earlier TOC works, and with good reason - he's found easier, faster and more reliable ways of dealing with some aspects of TOC.
Unlike many TOC books, TLTP is not a business novel - it's a text book. However, don't think that means it's a dull read - Dettmer's writing style is excellent and highly engaging. The content is pitched at exactly the right level - it's not patronising and yet it fully explains everything to the point where you're never left looking for more clarification.
There's even a CD at the back with some Windows software designed for diagramming the logic trees (also google a product called 'Flying Logic', especially if you work on an Apple Mac like I do).
This book is a MUST READ for anyone wanting to know more about TOC (Theory of Constraints) and logical thinking processes.
