"The Old Man of Lochnagar" is a deliciously whimsical tale. The opening line puts one immediately in the right frame of mind: "Not long ago, when children were even smaller and people had especially hairy knees, there lived an old man of Locnagar." As you can judge from that sentence, the book was meant to be read aloud - even if you are the only one at home to hear the reading. There are some "children's books" which we should reread every now and then, no matter how old we get. "The Old Man of Lochnagar" is definitely in that category. Its whimsy is food for the soul. Prince Charles can be proud of having created "The Old Man of Lochnagar." As a half-Australian/half-American whose great grandparents all came from Scotland, I hold this book in a special place in my heart.

An old favorite 5 May 2013
By Victoria Luckie - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This imaginative story was a great inspiration which I vividly remember reading as a child. It is a wonderful gem of a story which helped me survive a difficult time. Firing my own imagination far better than any teacher or dull prescribed text could do. Regardless of who the author is it stands alone as a delightful tale. I am overjoyed to have re-discovered this well-loved favorite and am currently buying a copy for my own daughter.

Funny and full of nonsense 9 May 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I'll never forget receiving this nonsense book written by Prince Charles. I read it and read it and had it read to me over and over again. It still has a spot on my formal bookcase in the living room.
