Product Description

The Lobbyist, by Thomas Hibbard, is a hard-hitting and smart political thriller that will keep you guessing and asking for more. The story is a study of government ambition, flawed characters, and hidden agendas, set in the compelling world of Los Angeles county government, a hornet’s nest of intrigue, political infighting, and murder. It is also a story fueled by the central theme that no matter how filled one’s life may be with trials and tribulations, in the end, happiness is found in the love of another. Tom Burton, former Chief Deputy to L.A. Supervisor John Howard, finds himself being investigated by attractive L.A. Times reporter Kathy Boyd, who has been assigned to Tom as a promising source for information on allegations of possible county corruption involving Tom’s ex-boss. But, Tom is no friend of the press and Kathy finds her assignment less than productive, until Tom finds himself the main suspect in Howard’s murder. With all evidence pointing in Tom’s direction, including knowledge that he had a grudge against Howard before his death, Tom sees the writing on the wall. Ultimately, Tom and Kathy find their unlikely pairing mutually advantageous, and a rocky relationship ensures. When the County Sheriff and District Attorney move to prosecute Tom, and Kathy becomes the target of drug dealers who she had exposed in past reporting, the two find their lives changed forever in ways they could never have imagined. Told with grit and showing more than a little hard-boiled attitude, The Lobbyist is filled with multifaceted characters and complex subplots. Beautifully paced and written in masterful prose, Thomas Hibbard has written a book that ranks with the best in the political thriller genre. The Lobbyist is sure to please any thriller buff, as well as any lover of good storytelling.

An explosion of blockbuster proportions! 3 Aug 2009
By William J. Key - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The enthralling, fast-moving plot of the book explodes on the stage of the City and County of Los Angeles, authentically described in exquisitely accurate word pictures as only a few writers have been able to paint. The action captures the excitement of the power centers of the huge city, the glamour of the movie stars' Malibu Colony and the exotic islands of the South Pacific few of us can imagine or will ever see. Based the author's firsthand knowledge of how LA works, this novel is contemporary, in the genre of Raymond Chandler.

Could put this one down! 1 Aug 2009
By Michael Brown - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
This is one book once I started I couldn't put it down. It is a very easy read and the characters seem to jump out of the pages. There are not enough books with good endings, this definitely will make you feel good. Justice for the wrongly accused. Justice for those who little or no regard for others. Humor in unexpected places.
Good, But Not What I Was Expecting 13 May 2012
By Mike Brown - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Based on the book's description, I expected something like a fictional expose of corruption in local politics combined with a crime mystery. It really isn't that at all. It's pretty much just a crime mystery involving somebody who happened to be a former government employee and is now a lobbyist. There is very little about corruption. I loved the main character and the story was enjoyable. I just think it could have been better and less of the same-old same-old if it focused more on the corruption in the political system, as the description implied.
