Classic double-bill. 'The Little Princess' (1939) stars Shirley Temple as young Sara Crewe, sent to boarding school by her rich and patriotic father (Ian Hunter) so he can enlist and fight in the Boer War. When he is reported killed in the fighting however, leaving Sara penniless, the school's headmistress (Mary Nash) starts treating Sara like a slave. Unable to believe her father is dead, Sara braves the cold streets of Victorian London to search for him in the military hospitals. In 'Little Lord Fauntleroy' (1936) Freddie Bartholomew plays young Cedric Erroll, the Brooklyn boy who finds out that he is the long-lost heir to a fortune in England. Sent to stay with the frosty Lord who has been looking after the trust, Cedric soon warms his heart with his good nature, while having to prove himself against the local kids in the neighborhood.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Films, Great Price!! 1 Dec 2007
By Agnes B
Really great deal. I have bought these 2 for one budget DVD's in the past and found the quality questionable but was really surprised that the prints for these seem to have been sourced from very good masters. Recommended for a rainy Sunday afternoon!

Don't believe the first reviewer of this item. He/she only reviews DVDs by a single manufacturer. Watch today's 'Click' on BBC News to learn more about fake reviews. The best version of this film available on DVD, according to the broad cross-section of reviewers on, is the Anchor Bay Region 1 DVD - it's out of print but can still be bought on Amazon: Little Lord Fauntleroy [DVD] [1936] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

Note: I bought the Anchor Bay R1 DVD in the end. It's a very good print of the film, and I'd recommend it to anyone.
