Lars the baby polar bear is friends with everyone - he doesn't understand that seals and humans cannot be his friends. This enchanting and thought provoking tale follows Lars and his young companions on a journey about friendships and growing up. Lars is forbidden from playing with his friends but when an iceberg breaks away carrying him to unknown lands, he discovers a threat to all of those living in the north pole, friends and enemies alike. Is he able to return to his home and bring them all together to defeat this new monster?
This is a film all the family will enjoy. There are lovable and colourful characters to hold the attention of even the youngest viewers, and an underlying environmental theme, which the older child (and adults!) will be left thinking about.

Despite the ending music which does not fit the feel of the music, this film is a delight from start to finish with plenty of humour, drama and suspense to entertain children up to the age of 7-8. The animation is typically old style up to the end where it takes on a more modern feeling and the charactisation is not bad for a childs program. If your child likes to point out mistakes (like Polar Bears don't live in packs as my eldest lovingly pointed out), then this is a good film to put on in the afternoon as some harmless fun.

The film is not entirely scare free. This isn't a problem if you're aware of it or your kids are robust enough (assuming you're looking at this for children :). My slightly sensitive four year old and one of her friends, who is hyper-sensitive, were both very scared at one point in the film.
The feel of the film is not as laid back as the book. Tries to be too jokey, but I guess kids are expected to _need_ more stimulation from moving pics than printed pages and anyhow, you want some length to the film don't you?
