Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

A classic returns, this time updated to include Mac OS 8.6, the iMac and more Internet material. The Little Mac Book will fit your needs well if you've chosen to get into personal computing by way of a Macintosh computer and want a friendly and thorough guide.

Robin Williams--no, not the comic actor-- assumes her readers have no computer experience at all. She provides explanations of all the essentials as well as the perennial stumper of all Mac novices--how to get the floppy disk out of its drive! She also explains why hooking Macs together in a network is easier than you might think and shows how to use Sherlock to extract the information you need from the Internet. Since she focuses on Mac OS 8.6 in general, her approach is suitable for users of all Macs that use this system, including the iMac and iBook. Throughout, her love for the Mac and its community of users is obvious.

A lot of effort has gone into this book's design, too--there are few slapped- in screen shots and lots of carefully trimmed and laid- out illustrations. Not enough publishers put this kind of care into their books' production. As a result of the collaboration between Williams and her publisher, The Little Mac Book is a joy to look at, hold, read and use. --David Wall

Topics covered: The Mac OS 8.6 system, the mouse, keyboard, file management, Mac text editing and Internet tips. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Having never owned a computer before, I bought every book I could find about iMacs and Macs in general. What a waste of money! Robin Williams' book is the only one I or anyone needs! It not only is comprehensive, but is easy to understand and to use. I particularly enjoy the way she uses real- world analogies to explain what a hard disk is or what memory is. I really believe that Apple should endorse this as the "Official Apple Handbook," enclose it with every iMac they sell and give everybody a big break, after all, Jeff Goldblum's charisma and Steve Jobs' Nehru jacket only take you so far. Buy this book before any of the others pretending to teach you iMac or Mac. PS: I got a strawberry.

Great book 21 Aug 1999

To the person who asked if this book works for the iMac, yes it does.

I am new to Mac, but an experienced Wintel user. I found the book was very useful. I especially enjoyed the section on customizing the Apple menu. I like the author's casual style and I have to say that it was great to read a computer guide written by a woman.

Get this Book! 16 April 1999

I teach Macintosh based design courses, and this is (and has been for the past five years) the standard textbook for my classes. It offers Mac beginners the definitions for all of the "geek speak" terms in language that everyone can understand. It explains how the computer works and offers easy to read text and pictures. Even for advanced users, you will be surprised to dicover the true meaning of the icons and acronyms you have been using all of these years.

The little Mac Book Leopard Edition
It is a reference type of book which is very difficult to use. The main problem is that many of the explanation are greyed out and hard to read.
