Product Description

Cynics are as old as Man himself. Ancient sources tell of Adam who, when seeing Eve for the first time, muttered, "Uh-oh. There goes Free Will." If Adam was indeed the father of the human race - and, as such, the progenitor of cynicism - is it any surprise his children are just like him? Nowadays, the word 'cynic' has been relegated to a synonym of 'doubter', 'pessimist' or 'sceptic'. But, given our modern preoccupations with pleasure, fame, fortune and power, maybe we need cynics more than ever. Perhaps theirs is that small, sane voice amid the roar of instant gratification, 24-hour television, media manipulation and marketing. Or perhaps we just wanted to sell a book. But, of course - we're not that cynical. Are we?

From the Author

This is our very first book, drawing on the success of our satirical magazine As Above So Below.

First, let me commend the authors for compact book --about three by four inches ---helps conserve resources, and I find I'm able to carry it with me all around Arctic Alaska as I continue to explore (and take a fall now and then)
Within the compact pages, Thompson and French submit a "small, sane voice amid the roar of instant gratification, 24-hour television, media manipulation and marketing"
The cynical insights in the book can hopefully bring us down to earth in these times of star-struck reality shows and tv anchor airheads.
Some of their better jousts ---"Too many cooks spoil the TV schedule," "Why are there no new Chinese proverbs? and "Politics --ask no questions and hear no spins."
I'm looking forward to an even smaller sequel by these talented authors.

Great Little Book 8 Nov 2007
By Jane W
Format:Paperback
This is a great "Little" book, although when I ordered it I wasn't expecting it to quite so "little"! However, the size does mean that you can stick it in your bag (or pocket) and have a quick read of a few pages whenever you're in need of some light relief.

The book is split into three sections: Aphorisms (had to look that one up!), Questions, Instructions and Precepts and Wisdom of Life. My favourite quote is "Do everything in moderation: that includes doing everything in moderation"

All in all, it gave me a good giggle and would make an original reasonably priced little gift or stocking filler for cynics and non-cynics alike.
