I bought this as a christmas gift for my brother-in-law and have recently been assured that it has been well used since being unwrapped. My niece has also been discovering the great fun to be had with this little gem. Highly entertaining and good fun for beginners and those who like a sing song of an evening.

A nice selection of songs in a book that will lay flat on a music stand without falling apart.
All songs are on two pages, so no page turning and there is a handy pullout chord chart at the back.
If you are approaching that age when the eyesight is going, the text is small, but then it is called the little black songbook so what do you expect !?

Being a learner, I'm keen to try to improve as quickly as possible.
Memorising and practising your chords is one thing, but nothing gets you learning them faster (not least to say much more enjoyably) than playing songs.

This little book is an excellent accompaniment whether you're an experienced player looking to expand your repertoire, or a beginner like me.

There will be songs inside that everyone knows, Bob Dylan, Beatles, The Cure, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash - honestly, something for everyone.

The difficulty of the songs is wide ranging, some of them not requiring more than 3 or 4 major chords, while others might tax even an experienced guitarist.

As others have stated, the pages happily stay open on your lap, and the vast majority of the songs span only two pages, so you rarely need to turn mid-way.

And also, incredibly helpfully, there is a fold-out chord chart in the back of the book that extends in such a way that you can have it open at the same time as the song you are playing. Be warned though, being a small book, the chart does require fairly close observation as the symbols are quite small, but regardless it's an excellent extra.

This is one to keep in your guitar bag.

Don't make the same mistake I did, especially if, like me, you wear reading glasses. This book is A5 size (I imagined it was A4). Other than that, this book was exactly what I was expecting

Great selection of songs for a range of abilities. Comes with a pull-out chord finder that contains most, but not all of the chords used in the songs.

This little book has proved to be an invaluable sing along companion over the last few years. The plastic covers mean that it's very hard wearing and I haven't had any problems with it falling apart (despite glasses of wine and beer etc. getting poured over it!). Couple of very minor criticisms: some of the songs are in an odd key (e.g. Yesterday), but I got around this by transposing it into it's original key and writing the chords in pencil onto the page; also, the book doesn't stay open on the page you leave it on, but I always carry a trigger capo with me (some songs need a capo) so that conveniently acts as a handy page-keeper-open-er. However, the best feature about this book for me personally is the selection of (130!) songs that it has in it- best in any song book I have- which, along with it's small size, is why I always carry it with me when the guitar comes along! It's a shame that Amazon haven't posted the list of songs that it contains, but this can be found on the net using a generic search engine.

This small book is smashing. It has lots of excellent songs, a good flexible bind so that it doesnt disintegrate after you use and abuse it forcing it to lay flat, and it would fit in a guitar case.

Songs never require page turning, which is a nice touch. But also brings me on to the one point (not flaw) that you must consider when buying. The text size is quite small. So squinters need not apply. It's not stupidly small mind, you can read it from a stand.

In short, this book is fantastic. For the money you cant beat it. Great mix of songs for someone to sit and strum through. There's also a good range of difficulty too, in my opinion anyway.

This and the folk LBB that I bout together at a discount are little gems that will be added to in the future.

Oh, and it even comes with a fairly extensive chord chart that pulls out to the right, so you can see that and any entire song when playing. What else can I say? If you're tempted, go forth, and worry not.

This is a great small book that will easily fit into anyone's gig bag as it is roughly A5 size and about an inch thick which I thing is a great size if you just want to carry something around so you have some sort of reference with you on the basic structure on some popular songs.

the book is set out so that you don't have to turn a page mid song which is really handy, the only down side to this is that the righting is quite small so you can't just have it on the floor next to you it does have to be quite close so you can read it especially if like me you need glasses.

Each song has the relevant chords to that song shown in chord boxes at the top of each song so you know and can easily look at what chord they mean if like me you are a beginner and you don't have to keep looking back to the star or the end of the book for the finger placement of that particular chord. The notation is set up with the chord letter above the words but it does not have timings or strumming patterns so if you don't have the track you might struggle unless you are really good at playing guitar or you just want to make one up.

The pages do not lie flat when open so a bit of encouragement might be needed to keep the page that you want or something to hold it open would also work.
I am very pleased with this book and would definitely recommend it but then I am a beginner and the more experienced of you might find it a little basic and lacking in some info that you might want.
