....recreate the aromas and tastes of Grandma's kitchen with these deliciously tempting treats.'

2000/Ebury Press/paperback

'This is very much a cookbook about me.
It contains a lot of treasured memories about food, family and friends, along with lots of good recipes for everyday baking.
These are simple recipes that have transformed and enriched my life, and I hope they'll do the same for you...

The author spent her childhood in Colombia, then moved to the US before coming to Britain in 1984. Yet wherever she was there was a very good chance she would be found in the kitchen, experimenting with cookies or pursuing her aim of creating the perfect brownie.
Following a career in design and marketing, she trained at Leith's School of Food and Wine, then took the initiative and set up her own catering business.
As a brownie-craving, homesick American abroad, she quickly realised the commercial potential of really good quality homebaked treats and set up 'The Little Red Barn' in 1996.... producing a variety of cookies, brownies, muffins and nuts.

Packed full of irresistible recipes to make at home, this book includes everything from canapés, snacks and quick breads to muffins, cookies and brownies....Each recipe uses only the best natural ingredients and an easy-to-follow method to give scrumptious results every time.'

144 high quality shiny pages, split over main chapters:

1. Muffins and Scones
2. Cakes and Frostings
3. Quick Breads
4. Pies and Strudels
5. Brownies
6. Cookies
7.

Do you like cookies, brownies, muffins, or in fact cakes in general? This has to be the book for you. I've made many of it's recipies and had nothing but praise from all 'victims' of my usual odd creations. Really got me back into the kitchen after a number of years and failed attempts. Very easy to follow methods make this book the best cook's friend I've ever had.

It's not flame proof (well of course, because it's a BOOK after all) it's not smear or smudge proof (my copy has many GOOEY finger prints over it's most used pages) but it IS idiot proof. It must be if I'm sucessful in making the delights contained there-in.

Being an American in Paris I was thrilled to find a cookbook full of recipes from home, adapted for living in Europe. A fan of the author's baked goods, which I bought at Harvey Nicols on several occasions, I was excited to be able to try out her recipes at home. So far the things that I have tried have been simple and fast to do with a great result. Only complaint...no Barn Nuts recipe!!!!

More than a book on baking... 17 Aug. 2000
By lu verde - Published on Amazon.com

I bought this book and found myself as engrossed with the anecdotes and clever design layout as by the recipes. I read it cover to cover and then started baking. The recipes are simple to follow and yet emerge from the oven to rave reviews and requests for the recipe. To which I reply -- get your own book! This one won't sit on the shelf collecting dust. It will be up on the counter, spine nicely cracked, gathering flour and bits of chocolate in between the pages.

Gorgeous bites of heaven! 27 May 2002
By C. Souza - Published on Amazon.com

While I consider myself to be an accomplished cook, I've never been all that good at baking...in actual fact most of the cakes and cookies I've ever baked have turned out to be inedible! This book, however, is a godsend and all the recipes turn out perfectly every single time. The results have been an absolute hit with my family, friends and dinner guests, and I'm sure you'll not be disappointed either. You have simply not lived if you haven't yet tried her 'Devil's food cake', a divine, rich chocolate cake. I also love the Cinnamon Buns, Zucchini and poppy seed loaf, Savoury Pumpkin Bread and Cheesecake Swirl Brownies.
The book does not restrict itself to desserts and has a small section on canapes and hors d'oeuvres. Try the Spicy Gougeres (a savoury version of a profiterole made with Gruyere cheese), the caramelized onion tarlets or the Pepper jam tartlets. Yum!

Every recipe I have made from this book has been right on the money, and this is a book I choose to give others as a gift. The molasses cookies have become a family favorite, while the snickerdoodles are perfect with tea or coffee. Yum.
