Product Description

Documentary charting the historical relationship that has evolved between America and Bermuda over the past 400 years. The film examines the role Bermuda has played in the birth of colonialism, a succession of wars from the American Civil War through the two World Wars and the Cold War, and as a political stepping stone between the Old Europe and the New World in modern times.

Over the course of more than 50 years, thousands of US service members, served an important role in Bermuda. This film goes much further in an examination of the role of Bermuda in nearly every conflict the United States experienced through the end of the cold war. It was a popular position of media types to portray the bases in Bermuda as a kind of club Fed, what they've never put forth is that Bermuda was a key piece of geography between the US and Nazi U-boat wolf packs. It was also the key position from which we tracked every Soviet submarine, armed with nuclear missiles, in the Atlantic. The Soviets knew why we were there and Bermuda was in the bulls-eye of their nuclear missile targeting systems.

This documentary is extraordinary. This is not a Bermuda travel film. Thank you, Lucinda Spurling.
